Welcome to the Arts Council Santa Cruz County online virtual Arts Classroom. We will be sharing lesson plans, activities, and video tutorials in visual arts, dance, music, and theater from our very talented Mariposa Arts, SPECTRA, and Artist Teacher Partnership teaching artists. It is our intention to continue to provide students and families with new lessons each week so you can learn in and through the arts at home. Enjoy!
Arts Council would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, PVUSD Extended Learning, and Live Oak School District and Education Foundation for their on-going support and deep partnerships over the years in ensuring we bring the highest quality, engaging arts education programs to our county’s students -- programs that not only serve our children, but build the capacity of our educators. Without their understanding of the great value of arts education and the needs of our schools though an equity lens, we wouldn’t be able to offer such meaningful programs such as Mariposa Arts, SPECTRA, and the Artist Teacher Partnership.
Since 1979, the Arts Council has been a passionate supporter of the unique, ever-evolving Santa Cruz County arts ecosystem. We’re a private, non-profit agency made up of a staff, board, and volunteers dedicated to strengthening our Santa Cruz community through the arts. Our mission is to generate creativity, vibrancy, and connection, with a vision for a stronger Santa Cruz County, where creative expression thrives and the arts are integral to all aspects of our diverse community.
Since 1980, we have provided schools across the county with high-quality arts education residencies, fun and exciting after-school programs, performances, and workshops. We also work to strengthen and expand the capacity for schools and teachers to provide sustainable arts education models through professional development and advocacy. We are sparking the imaginations of more than 17,000 youth each year, engaging students through SPECTRA and Mariposa Arts, and rallying support through the Santa Cruz County Alliance for Arts Education.
Our Arts Education programs help youth develop artistic skills, while promoting academic success and socio-emotional development through the arts. Through these arts, music, and dance, and theater programs, youth learn to express themselves, creatively problem-solve, make healthy choices, and positively impact their communities.
